Castor is pleased to present Participating In A Chair, Amanda Moström's second exhibition with the gallery. Moström has a dark-humoured approach to understanding human relationships within the designed environment.
The title Participating in a chair is taken from a meditation video, the goal of which is to aid the viewers to be present in the now, to “re-centre” themselves.
The gallery interior, modified by Moström, echoes techniques used in animal husbandry. The round corners of the space mimic curved walls recommended for the stress-free movement and unobstructed transportation of livestock.
Within the controlled environment of the gallery, Moström has made a managed, tended space, housing objects purely for pleasure.
An additional text piece accompanies the exhibition with part lyrics from a hip hop / RnB tune Climax by Slum Village, part co-written by poet Kai Isaiah Jamal and artist Ruby Wroe. The text marks a collaborative approach taken by the artist in exploring the conventional tropes of patriarchal erotica interwoven with contemporary auto-theoretical responses.
